UEFA emphasises VAR is only for "clear and obvious mistakes" ahead of Europa League knockout phase debut

PA Images | The technology was deployed in the Premier League for the first time this season and has been met with copious criticism, UEFA's usage protocol - for "clear and obvious mistakes" only - having apparently been disregarded.

VAR will be used for the first time in the Europa League knockout phase kicking off on 20th February.

Following the Premier League controversy, the chairman of UEFA's Referees Committee emphasised that VAR will only be used for "clear and obvious mistakes" during the tournament.
