Premier League clubs decide to maintain status quo on VAR
15 November 2019
Despite concerns about the current VAR system, a meeting between the Premier League clubs and the head of referees concluded that no significant changes will be made to it.
Instead, minor tweaks to the system will be implemented from next month.
On Thursday the chief representatives from the 20 Premier League clubs met with the head of referees, Mike Riley, in a London hotel to discuss the state of VAR.
According to a statement made on Mike Riley's behalf, he "addressed the clubs and accepted improvement is required" and that "speed and consistency of decision-making are priority areas."
Prior to the meeting, the notion that a reform of the current system was needed was widely held, however, the Premier League clubs ducked the opportunity to follow through.
