New European competition hands second chances to English clubs

Competition aimed at bolstering participation of clubs from Europe’s mid-ranking leagues.

New competition will provide “second chance” back into European competition for English teams that falter in the Europa League - see list of English clubs who would have qualified over the past decade.

UEFA has unveiled further details of its new club competition, the UEFA Conference League – or so called Europa League 2 – which will take place from 2021.

Aimed at increasing participation from clubs in Europe’s mid-ranking leagues, the Conference’s format will also provide a back door entry back into European competition for English teams who falter in the first stages of a trimmed down Europa League.
