Iker Casillas-backed accelerator ready to invest in and support football start-ups – industry seen as much more open to innovation

Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Casillas has launched Sportboost, an accelerator and incubator for sports startups.
Since retiring from playing, Casillas has invested in companies including IDOVEN, Kognia and Fly-Fut.
"There are so many talented people with innovative ideas that need a first push. That talent cannot be lost due to lack of opportunities," the World Cup winner says.
Startups which join the accelerator will have access to mentoring from current and former professional sportspeople and sport executives.

During a training session with FC Porto on May 1, 2019, Iker Casillas had a heart attack. The Spanish goalkeeper, a Real Madrid legend and World Cup winner, would not play elite football again.
