Championship profitability analysis: £2.2 billion loss over the past decade

PA Images | Aston Villa had the biggest loss in the Championship in 2018/19. Since 2015/16 the club have lost more than £200 million.

Any discussion of profitability in the boardrooms of the Championship clubs would be wildly off topic - the 2018/19 accounts reveal pre-tax losses above £300 million, adding to a stunning overall loss of £2.2 billion over the past decade.

While the EFL has on previous occasions made attempts to regulate the league, so far nothing has prevented the owners from continuing their spending sprees.

We have analysed the development in Championship finances over the past ten years.
