Sunderland director resigns for personal reasons

Charlie Methven asked to resign months ago but stayed on to complete the investment into the club made recently by a quartet of American businessmen.

Methven, a political consultant by profession, said the prospect of a new government in the new year would make his day job more challenging. Adding to the anticipated want of time, he and his wife are expecting their first child.
