Imago

IMAGO | Manchester United are the only Big Six side to miss out on next season’s Champions League, despite having one of the highest expenses per minute played in the Premier League.

This analysis ranks Premier League clubs by player expenses per minute, based on estimated 2024/25 squad costs — combining two key components: player wages and player amortisation.

The so-called Big Six dominate the top of the chart, with Manchester City recording the highest figure at €15,951 per player, per minute played.

Why it matters: This metric reflects not just how much clubs spend, but how efficiently those resources are deployed on the pitch.

The perspective: Smart spending can outperform big budgets in isolated cases, but overall, success remains closely tied to higher investment levels.
