The takeover of Charlton Athletic by East Street Investments has been warmly received by Addicks fans – but it’s Abu Dhabi businessman Tahnoon Nimer’s first major investment in football.

The chairman of Abu Dhabi Business Development, majority shareholder in the company buying the Championship club, of which he will be a director, has previously had little involvement in sports businesses. Doha Golf Club is listed as Abu Dhabi Business Development’s only sports client on its website.
