Match of the Week Europa League: Financial head-to-head Sevilla v West Ham United

West Ham are set to have their hands full on Thursday evening, as they travel to Andalusia to take on six-time winners Sevilla in the first leg of the round of 16 in UEFA Europa League.

In the last decade a Spanish team has won the Europa League seven times, while an English team has won the remaining three. The veterans from Sevilla have won the competition four times during that period. 

However, the clubs are more comparable financially, as the Hammers actually generated €43 million more in revenue, at a total of €218 million, relative to Sevilla's €175 million. 

Sevilla are far more reliant on player sales, which is why the club suffered a massive decline in their EBIT-margin following the knock-on effects of the pandemic.
