Liverpool intend to increase the capacity of Anfield by 7,000 seats in a development that would make the stadium the third largest in the Premier League, the club said on Friday when public consultations commenced.

In august, offthepitch.com revealed that the club's executives were looking to expand the Anfield Road End, hoping to increase capacity to approximately 62,000 while also considering how to maximise capacity and space for non-matchday events to boost the stadium's appeal to other sports, including boxing and rugby league.
