Some of the big English clubs are way behind the clubs with the most global followers.

Despite suffering on the pitch, one English club – Manchester United -- stands out as among the biggest in the world on social media.

Social media followers act as a tool for increasing revenues.

The purpose of social media teams are many, but most have in common they are supposed to inform, entertain and engage the clubs’ fans via their profiles.

This survey performed by Off The Pitch shows a dominance of the Premier League on the world market, but also that the social media crown sits elsewhere, according figures at noon on April 28 of the most followed football clubs based on the follow count of the clubs’ domestic language social media profiles
