French Ligue 1 to reschedule kick-off time from 2020 to benefit Chinese fans

The CEO of Ligue 1 is trying to boost presence in China in order to take a step towards global recognition.

The Sunday kick-off times in France’s Ligue 1 will change from the 2020/21 season to boost the league’s Chinese presence, according to the chief executive of France’s Professional Football League (LFP) Didier Quillot.

According to Chinese media, Quillot said in an interview that: 

“We need to program matches earlier in the day. Starting from 2020, we will have one match every Sunday to kick off at 1pm in France, as what we did [sic] on the matches between Lyon and Monaco and Nice and PSG.”
