Much has happened since the two sides last met in the Champions League group stage in 2016 – where both matches ended in a 1-0 home team win – but it is surprisingly Atletico Madrid who come out on top when considering recent seasons' financial growth.
The Spanish club have since the 2015/16 season seen their turnover jump by 57 per cent to €389.4 million in 2018/19, while Bayern Munich's turnover has risen just 12 per cent to €660.1 in the same period.
Despite Bayern Munich's much higher turnover, the German club spend relatively less on wages than their opponents – with a wages-to-revenue ratio of 50.9 per cent compared to Atletico Madrid's 62.2 per cent.
