Swansea City have announced that club legend Leon Britton has been promoted to the role of sporting director - the first in the club's history.

Britton was appointed as an advisor to the board by the new chairman, Trevor Birch, at the end of last season and quickly earned his promotion with an impressive performance throughout the summer.

"There is a lot of pride for me. It's a big moment for me to be the first person to hold this position at the football club - a club I hold very dear to my heart," he said.
