However, while the viewing experience provided by these platforms in many ways now surpasses that of CCTV, they stress that partnering with the broadcaster remains a smart political move.

This season, coverage of European domestic football on China’s state broadcaster CCTV has been slow to get going, with games from the Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1 not aired until October after delays in securing deals. No agreements have been made once again with the Premier League or LaLiga.
