Asia-based betting companies that sponsor Premier League clubs may have overpaid due to being "naive" and "misjudging the value of shirt deals." This is how professor Simon Chadwick explains some major sponsorship deals that was penned in the summer.
Aston Villa announced over the summer that W88 had offered a "record-breaking" amount to sponsor the club after promotion to the Premier League.
The announcement read: "Aston Villa is delighted to announce a record-breaking commercial agreement with W88 to be Principal Partner for the 2019/20 season."
