Analysis: Paris Saint-Germain vs other clubs in Ligue 1
- Paris Saint-Germain have been in another league both on and off the pitch compared to the other clubs in Ligue 1 in recent years.
- The Parisian side have grown into one of the biggest commercial brands in European football, which is the main reason for the increasing gap between PSG and the rest of Ligue 1.
- The total turnover for Ligue 1 is by far the lowest of the big five leagues in Europe and PSG’s revenue makes up a third of total Ligue 1 revenue from 2016-2020.
- PSG have accumulated 62 per cent more commercial income than all the other teams in Ligue 1 combined.
It is, of course, impossible to talk about Ligue 1 without mentioning the biggest team in French football - Paris Saint-Germain.
The Qatari-owned club have, since the takeover in 2011, developed into one of the biggest sporting brands in the world. Helped by sponsor income from Qatar, between 2016 and 2020, the club have accumulated commercial income of €1.46 billion, which is the highest out of all European clubs.
