Aston Villa’s latest annual accounts have made clear the extent of the challenge the Birmingham giants face if they fail to gain promotion back to the Premier League in May.

Villa currently lie in ninth place, four points off the last play off place with ten league games remaining. Automatic promotion is out of reach, 19 points in the distance.
