Who paid out most in wages in 2020?

With more than 150 European clubs having published their 2020 financial accounts, we have taken a closer look at the by far highest expense in football, wages.

Amid the turmoil of last season, many clubs were forced to cut wages as revenue streams were stripped and liquidity inadequacy became a serious problem.

Nevertheless, wages rose by 6 per cent on average for the 150 clubs, driven largely by promoted clubs seeing a significant increase in wage-levels.
