Manchester City have climbed to the top: Highest revenue-generating football club in the world

Manchester City really got going during the pandemic, with sporting success and commercial proceeds propelling the club to the top in Europe.
The Citizens presented record turnover of €731 million in 2021/22, which is by all accounts set to make them the highest-grossing club in 2021/22, overtaking Real Madrid who occupied the top spot the year before.
Why it matters: During the pandemic-impacted years, Man City have increased revenues by about €125 million, while peers have stagnated and even declined quite substantially.
The perspective: Well-established giants like Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Manchester United have been surpassed in just a few years by the Abu Dhabi-owned club. Could Newcastle United be the next?
