Paris Saint-Germain have had the highest level of commercial revenue in the world in the last three years, and are also the club in the big-five leagues to rely most on commercial income.
The Premier League is by some distance the league with the highest average level of commercial income. That average is double the earnings enjoyed by La Liga clubs, and more than three times the average income of Ligue 1.
Why it matters: The pandemic resulted in a near-total loss of matchday revenue, which increased clubs’ reliance on commercial income in the last two seasons to mitigate their losses.
The perspective: Football clubs have developed into huge global brands in recent years, resulting in bigger sponsorship deals. However, clubs have also adopted a more risky approach, entering into agreements with new and young companies, ie crypto deals.
