Barcelona to save €16 million a month from temporary wage cut

Photo: PA Images Barcelona will save €16 million a month after their players, coaches and staff have committed to a temporary 70 per cent wage reduction, according to the club's president, Josep Maria Bartomeu.

The Spanish club earlier this week implemented a 70 per cent salary reduction of their players and staff.

According to Barcelona's president, the first team's captains committed to the idea immediately after it was proposed.

A series of clubs have already implemented similar cost-cutting strategies in order to offset the economic fallout of the coronavirus situation. In Spain the number of cases is growing rapidly and LaLiga has been postponed indefinitely.
