When image rights clash with reality

  • The company (Mint Media) that owned the image rights of Ronaldo, when he was at Real Madrid, was owned by the owner of Valencia CF (Peter Kim). Consequently, Ronaldo, who was under contract at Real Madrid, was arguably making money for Valencia while playing for Real Madrid.
  • A disagreement over commercial rights saw Danish internationals (including Christian Eriksen and Kasper Schmeichel) become unavailable for selection for the national side, after players refused the terms of a deal with the Danish FA.
