Tough decision on distribution of funds from TV rights could be disastrous for Bundesliga solidarity

On 7th December, the DFL board will submit a new proposal for the distribution of money from TV rights for the 36 Bundesliga clubs to vote on.
Today 70 per cent of the funds in the Bundesliga are distributed based on league positions for the past five years, whereas in the Premier League only 25 per cent of the TV money is distributed according to league performance.
A group of clubs led by FSV Mainz 05, Arminia Bielefeld and VfB Stuttgart have submitted a drastically different proposal for redistribution of the funds to increase the level of competition in the Bundesliga.
The controversial issue is threatening to crush the solidarity of the Bundesliga clubs and widen the gap between rich and poor.
