Top executive hits out at FIFA’s “barbaric” World Cup plans

Atletico Madrid CEO slams likely increase to player workload under FIFA’s proposals for a World Cup biennial and says that the idea has no economic merit for clubs.

Miguel Angel Gil likened rows between FIFA and UEFA to arguing parents with the clubs as children “who suffer in the middle”.

Executive remorseful about Atletico’s role in the Super League plot, saying that the idea wasn’t thought through and that he realised the club was “cheating” its fans and his ideals.
