Sunderland's owner yields to fans' demands and commences process of selling club

Following the club's Boxing Day draw with Bolton, a fan-led campaign demanded Sunderland's owner, Steward Donald, cut his losses and sell the club.

Sunderland's owner, Steward Donald, has agreed to sell the club following a fan-led campaign demanding his departure just 18 months after the English businessman took over the crisis-stricken club. 

After the club's Boxing Day draw with Bolton, various groups of Sunderland fans called for the club to be sold immediately, stating that "no-one knows the long-term plan for the club, and trust between the fans and the boardroom has eroded."
