Sports apps generate increasingly more revenue in changing market

Sports broadcasting mobile apps have seen a surge in revenue growth the past few years.

The market has changed from being dominated by apps that focus on a single sport or league to broadcasters with a variety of rights now taking the top spots.

The market for mobile sports viewing continues to generate greater revenue.

In the first half of 2019, the net worldwide revenue of apps in the sports category reached £135 million. That's an increase of more than 60 per cent compared to the £82 million of the first half of 2018.

According to a report from the data analyst Sensor Tower, the worldwide revenue of sports apps has surged since the company started analysing the market in 2016. Back then the revenue was £76 million worldwide for the year.
