Interested buyers in the Brazilian market should expect a different process as clubs in the next pool are expected to demand higher multiples for their assets.

New types of owners are trying to close a few deals - some of them with a rather short-term mindset, others keen to build the new Ajax or Benfica in Brazil.

Why it matters: For decades, European clubs have bought the outstanding talented players from Brazil – often on the cheap. That might change in the future when new and more professional owners take charge.

Until now, Brazilian clubs were structured as they were a century ago. Most of the first and second division members are associations – non-profit organisations guided by amateur presidents, elected by internal political groups. But something has changed, and that change is continuing.
