The Magpies have confirmed that they have not been able to agree on terms for an extended deal with the current manager, Rafael Benitez.
There have been rumours that Benitez has been approached by several clubs, but he has not announced his plans for the future.
Offthepitch.com has ascertained that one bookmaker's favourite to replace Benitez will not be running for the spot.
