Match of the Week Champions League: Financial head-to-head Villarreal v Liverpool

Villarreal surprised the whole football world by eliminating Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich to reach their second UCL semi-final in the club’s history.
The latest head-to-head meeting between the clubs was in the 2015/2016 Europa League semi-finals, where Jurgen Klopp’s side defeated the Yellow Submarine 3-1 on aggregate.
Financially, Liverpool are in another league compared to Villarreal, which is made evident with the Reds spending over €1.2 billion more on wages over the last five years.
Both clubs have already secured a hefty prize money from reaching the UCL semi-finals, and reaching the final could bring in an additional €15-20 million.
