Meanwhile the best paid manager is netting £3.5 million annually – way above the division average of £880,000.

The average basic play for a Championship club's highest earner is £1.5 million, according to an internal survey conducted by the EFL which has been revealed by the Daily Mail.

However, the best paid player in the division is earning more than double that at £3.5 million, according to the survey which has been filled out by 18 Championship clubs. 

That is equal to the highest paid manager in the division, who is earning £3.5 million a season for an unnamed club.
