Sol Campbell, the former England national player, is owed £182,000 by Macclesfield, leading him to support the winding-up petition against the club.
The League Two club are also understood to owe a "very large" amount of tax.
Macclesfield have been granted until 18th December to clear their debts, at which time a judge will reconsider the petition.
