Liverpool FC have failed to trademark the word "Liverpool"

Liverpool's application to trademark the word "Liverpool" has been rejected by the Intellectual Property Office. 

Despite the unsuccessful application, Liverpool will continue to "aggressively pursue those large-scale operations which seek to illegally exploit our intellectual property."

When the application was filed, it was met with fierce criticism from the club's own fanbase.
