Everton's CEO has admitted that "in an ideal world" the club wouldn't have a betting company as their front-of-shirt sponsor.

The regulations surrounding betting companies and front-of-shirt sponsorships are set to be reviewed, according to the minister in charge of gambling, Helen Whately.

The logo of betting company SportPesa has been visible on Everton's shirts since May 2017, with the club banking £9.6 million a year through the deal. However, at last night's annual general meeting, the club admitted that "in an ideal world" they would not be sponsored by a betting firm.

According to the Times, the issue was raised by one of Everton's shareholders, who questioned the partnership's compatibility with the club's work in the community.
