Birmingham CEO about sacking Garry Monk: "He didn’t really care about this job"
20 June 2019
Garry Monk fought off relegation despite transfer ban and point deduction, but was sacked because he wanted his agent involved in all transfers, says CEO.
Rather than meeting the owners and the management, Monk went on holiday, Xuandong Ren claims.
Birmingham sacked Garry Monk as their manager because he worked to include his own agent - James Featherstone of Omnisports - in all the club’s deals. Furthermore, he refused to develop the team’s style of play.
"We gave Garry everything he wanted," said Birmingham’s chief executive, Xuandong Ren, to The Times.
"There was only one thing that triggered this. I made it clear that we did not want his agent involved in every single deal. I’m not 100 per cent sure he was trying to get fired, but I know he didn’t really care about this job."
