Richard Scudamore, the former Premier League chief, said back in 2018 that he would like "someone to get a little bit closer to City" after they won the league by 19 points.

Manchester City's manager, Pep Guardiola, questioned whether the Premier League is concerned that Liverpool are 22 points clear at the top after City lost 2-0 at Tottenham on Sunday, referring to comments made by Richard Scudamore, the former Premier League chief, back in 2018.

You have to be concerned if you are the owner of the Premier League." 

Scudamore, in an August 2018 interview, said that he would like "someone to get a little bit closer to City" after they won the title by 19 points in the 2017/18 season.
