Exclusive: LaLiga boss takes further aim at PSG spending – and at the same time declare investigations into other state-owned clubs

LaLiga won’t accept that PSG keep losing millions and still manage to sign many of the world’s best players. But for LaLiga, this is not solely about PSG – it is a hard push to ensure all clubs stick to the rules.
In legal terms, LaLiga sees a failure of UEFA to adhere to its own financial control rules. Its executive director Oscar Mayo says that recent complaints about Kylian Mbappe’s contract renewal are consistent previous opposition to alleged breaches.
Why it matters: Javier Tebas and LaLiga strongly condemned PSG’s renewal of Mbappé’s contract. But it seems Tebas lacks proper backing from other powerful football institutions such as UEFA.
The perspective: They have been there before – LaLiga claiming that Manchester City and PSG are breaking the rules. But what is different this time? Why would new investigations provide enough evidence to actually sanction the clubs?

LaLiga executive director Oscar Mayo says that the Spanish league will continue to challenge UEFA to abide by its own spending rules and stop state-backed clubs, such as PSG, spending amounts that are “not understood” and do a “disservice to football.”
