Controversial sponsor: Everton ending deal with gambling firm
17 February 2020
The club have decided to terminate their deal with Kenyan gambling giant SportPesa at the end of the season.
SportPesa's licence to operate was suspended by the Kenyan government last summer.
Everton's chief executive said earlier this year that in "an ideal world" the club would not be sponsored by a betting firm.
Everton are terminating their deal with Kenyan gambling giant SportPesa at the end of the current season, bringing an end to their relationship with the controversial firm two years before their contract was set to expire.
The move could be a sign that football clubs are starting to re-evaluate their deals with the increasingly scrutinised and heavily criticised sector - linked to mental health issues and putting financial strain on those affected by gambling addiction.
