On September 22, 2020, American financier Robert Platek's acquisition of Soenderjyske was announced. The press release detailed lengthy and respectful negotiations between Platek's family and the previous owners, Soenderjyske Elitesport, which managed handball and hockey teams alongside the football club.

Claus Guldager, then chairman of Soenderjyske Elitesport, stated in the press release that he saw a cultural alignment between the parties and was proud to hand over the reins
