Malaga CF on Tuesday began laying off players and staff in order to ensure their survival amid the economic uncertainty brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

The club, relegated to the second division of Spain in the 2017/18 season, is the first in the country to initiate collective redundancy as a measure to alleviate the financial pressure from more than two months of no football.
