Expert: Chelsea signing Kovačić despite the transfer ban should not be seen as a loophole

Despite Chelsea’s transfer ban, the World Cup finalist signed a five-year deal with the London club.

FIFA saying that everything regarding this transfer was 100 per cent in line with the rules.

Despite being under a FIFA-imposed transfer ban, Chelsea FC announced Monday evening that the club had signed Mateo Kovačić on a permanent deal after he had played for the club on loan from Real Madrid during the 2018/19 season.

The Danish lawyer and legal expert Jens Bertel Rasmussen, who has long experience with sports law, looked at the case on behalf of offthepitch.com and, according to his understanding of and experience with FIFA rules and governance, the transfer is legal and is not a breach of the transfer ban. How so?
