Analysis: Who are the real big spenders on the transfer market?

It’s hardly surprising there’s a clear link between the biggest spenders in the transfer market and the biggest clubs. But clubs like PSG and Real Madrid are also big businesses with revenues well above €600 million. It allows them to spend big.
In this analysis, we identify the clubs who spend most on the transfer market relative to their turnover. English, Italian and French clubs dominate the list. Four clubs stand out.
Why it matters: The more money you generate in turnover, the more money you can spend on the academy and the playing squad. Failing to develop a commercial machine leaves you vulnerable if transfer income dries up.
The perspective: All the super clubs in Europe spend less than half of their turnover on the transfer market. Nine of the 17 clubs spending most in the transfer market relative to their revenues are Italian.
