DFL have just published the financials for Bundesliga clubs covering the 2020/21 season, a year after the season ended.
The Bundesliga had the lowest net losses among the ‘Big Five’ leagues. Among German clubs, Union Berlin stand out, punching above their weight by finishing seventh in the league with the second-lowest wage bill.
Why it matters: The Bundesliga and many of its clubs claim to be at the vanguard of sustainability in football. But compared to many other leagues in Europe, they lack financial transparency.
