Last season proved to be the ultimate test to the robustness of European clubs' finances. Who managed to adapt operations, and who did not?
140 clubs recorded a combined operating loss of €4.7 billion in 2020, up 80 per cent from the year prior.
For many of the clubs with the highest operating profits is a sentiment of overperformance on the pitch. Sheffield United surprisingly came ninth in the Premier League, while Getafe and Atalanta achieved success in Europe. Only 22 out of 140 clubs posted a profit.
