Match of the Week Ligue 1: Financial head-to-head AS Monaco v Lyon

Last season AS Monaco were within minutes of securing a Champions League group spot. The hangover of that disappointment has lingered into the new season, with just two wins in the opening six matches.

By contrast, Olympique Lyon are having an excellent start to the season and are currently in fourth, just three point behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.

Both clubs have been reluctant transfer market spenders during the pandemic. Lyon only spent €9.4 million in the summer window.

Olympique Lyon have struggled to become regular qualifiers in European competition, adding to profitability pressure.
