El Classico - the biggest domestic match in world football - brings together two teams with completely contrasting experiences during Covid.

While Real Madrid saw 2019/20 end with a small profit, Barcelona suffered losses of €128 million. These hit €481 million for 2020/21 - a deficit that brought Barca to the brink of ruin.

Barca’s wages for 2019/20 were nearly half a billion euros. Salary cap restrictions have brought this down to just €97 million for the current campaign.

Sunday’s match brings two recent Everton managers - Carlo Ancelotti and Ronald Koeman - face to face. If, as is widely anticipated, Koeman leaves the Camp Nou this season, the favourite to replace him is a third former Goodison boss - Roberto Martinez.
