Match of the Week Championship: Financial head-to-head Hull City v Swansea City

Last week Turkish businessman Acun Ilicali completed his €24 million takeover of Hull City hoping to bring the Championship club back to the English top flight after 11 turbulent years under the ownership of the Allam family.

Both Hull and Swansea were in the Premier Leagues for several years with great success that saw Hull reach a FA cup final and Swansea lift the League Cup and advance to the knockout stages of the Europa League.

This season, the clubs are fighting to stay in the Championship as both teams are placed just above the relegation zone. 

The clubs downturn on the pitch reflects in their financial results as both teams combined revenue is down by 74 per cent in 2019/2020 compared to the 2016/2017 season, which was the last season where both clubs were in the Premier League.
