Match of the Week Champions League: Financial head-to-head Chelsea v Real Madrid

Chelsea are facing Real Madrid in the knockout stages of the Champions League for the second year in a row after last season's 3-1 aggregate win in the semi-finals.
The two clubs have won the competition a combined six times in the last ten years, but neither team is going into the game in form as Chelsea lost 4-1 at home to Brentford on Saturday, while Real Madrid were thrashed 4-0 at the home by Barca.
Financially, the size difference remains notable, as Real Madrid's massive commercial size remains almost twice that of Chelsea's. Despite this, Real Madrid's wage bill is €28 million higher than that of Chelsea.
High wages and insufficient player sales caused Chelsea's profitability to plummet despite winning the Champions League last season, whereas Real Madrid once more presented a minor profit.
