Match of the Week Champions League: Financial head-to-head Benfica v Ajax

Two-time European champions Benfica takes on four-time holders Ajax for a place in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Ajax strolled through the group stages by winning all six matches, which has only happened seven times before in the history of the Champions League.

In contrast, Benfica secured their place in the knockout stages in dramatic fashion on the last matchday as they finished one point ahead of the Spanish giants Barcelona.

Both teams have been known for being a conveyer belt for top talents in Europe and have accumulated a combined total of €810 million in profit on player sales since 2017.
