Ranking: Commercial revenue in the light of the pandemic
22 June 2021
For many European clubs the pandemic has had a huge impact on all revenue streams.
We have looked at the development of commercial revenues for 129 clubs.
In total, the clubs’ commercial revenue fell by only €48.9 million, which corresponds to a 1.2 per cent decrease from 2019.
Several English clubs managed to increase their commercial revenue from 2019 to 2020, with 12 of the top 20 clubs being from the UK. The highest growth was experienced by Everton, who boosted their commercial revenue to €86.6 million - an increase of more than 87 per cent.
The surge in commercial revenue was largely driven by the naming rights deal for the club’s new stadium, signed with Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov and his holding company, USM, who already sponsors Everton’s training ground.
